Alison and Peter Smithson were a British architectural duo who pioneered the Brutalist movement in the UK during the 1950s and 1960s. Their work was characterized by an emphasis on functionality and a stripped-down aesthetic. They believed that architecture should be honest, straightforward, and responsive to the needs of the people who used it.
Some of their most famous buildings include the Hunstanton School in Norfolk, the Economist Building in London, and the Robin Hood Gardens housing estate in East London. Despite their controversial reputation, the Smithsons are widely regarded as one of the most influential architectural teams of the 20th century.
